I sigh when I read this book. About every three paragraphs I close my eyes and shake my head in awe, as if to say to the gods of philosophy and poetry, Thank you for this man! This is a diamond blessing of a book that has become one of my favourite gifts to give.

This is some seriously poetic shit. It’s another late night tune. The whole American Prayer album is a drunken trip on truth. Even though it’s soaked with sixties’ sensibilities, there’s something sublimely timeless about this record. I adore it.

Love pumping through my veins? Wow. I feel the pump when I nail a white hot paragraph. When I pick my kid up at the airport. The rare times I ride horses. But it’s occurred to me that love rushing through my system is as physical as it sounds.
I’d love to paint this year, on large canvasses. I’d also like to build a tree house. And re-pierce my nose. And design a line of post cards. And throw a summer party with a local Mexican trio playing.
I think it’s a really precious dualism that you can’t escape if you want to be wide awake. We want to go home…we are home. We seek approval…we seek to be free. We want to be independent and truly self-referencing but the truth is that we do need each other … because we are each other.
