I’m back in podcast mode—and I brought a friend! Marie Forleo. Forleo and I have huddled many a time about creative conundrums and opportunities. I trust her smarts. Her book, Everything is Figureoutable, entered the NYT bestseller list at #1. Because that’s how Forleo does things—impeccably. And her yearly marketing and business development program, B-School is about to roll out.
Before I was a working author, I did one-on-one strategy sessions with (mostly female) entrepreneurs. “Fire Starter Sessions.” It was $1000 for a 90 minute session and I think, on the whole, people got what they came for and a bit more: idea clarity, a sequenced path, and pragmatic encouragement. I was very clear, “I’m not a coach, I’m a strategist.” I gave people what *I* wanted in terms of business council—straight up advice. Seasoned, sincere wisdom.
Exploitative capitalism is tapping our life force. Conscious enterprise is one of the most powerful vehicles for restoring our vitality.
If you want your work to matter… If you want to get more money in the door so you can live more—and give more… Then you have to learn to leverage online tools. And connect with people who know this terrain and take its high roads.
You have a gift. It’s your truth. Honour it and it will honour you — with every kind of fulfillment.
I’ve been asked to dumb down. More than once. By bosses. By advisors. By magazine editors. And I have one line for that…
We work so courageously to hear and heed our intuition, and yet sometimes we lie about following it. We make up “reasons” for our choice that sound more logical and acceptable.
A hunch can be hard to justify to others when the hunch is telling you to choose something other than them.
Think about something you really want. A desired thing, experience, person or place. A goal. Hold that longing in your mind and run through these questions…
A good personality test can help reveal the innermost workings of your psyche. Anyone who applies for a job with Team D takes these three tests. And, they’re kind of… fun…
Here’s what happens when I do a speaking gig. Every time. I try to dispense some luminous #truthbomb and how-to advice — because that’s what I’m there to do…
1. At the moment I have 225 notes in my “Blog – DRAFTS” notebook in Evernote. At least half of them will never see the light of day. 2. I read some of my shitty first drafts and…
I’ve been thinking on behalf of Creatives everywhere. I have some questions for us: What have you got in your archive that can be turned into art today? We’re so occupied with creating new and innovative that we can forget our past experiments or the ideas whose time hasn’t come yet. Remember that one idea you had…? Dust it off now and see if it’s got some glimmer to it….
When it comes to innovating… Be willing to start over. Be willing to make other people uncomfortable. Be willing to lose money. Be willing to…
My entrepreneurial sister and dance floor partner, Marie Forleo and I got gritty about visualization techniques and manifestation and all the misguided hooey that I think gets in the way of truly powerful inner perceptions.
We did it! We launched THE FIRE STARTER SESSIONS into the world like a rocket. The reviews are raving and the parties were magic. Hardcover, digital, audio… your FIRE STARTER awaits. Thank you, thank you for fanning these flames. I’ll be writing more next week about what’s been happening since launch day.
Some kids dreamed of accepting The Academy Award. I dreamed of book launch parties.

The creative process of having an idea, putting that idea into a medium: a bound book, a film, a seminar, an app and giving that to as many people as possible, is as much a sport as it is an art.
I love Pecha Kucha events — 20 slides at only 20 seconds each to talk about your current inspiration. Here we go — rapid fire style….
February 2013 Roundup: You’re down to the last minutes, poised + ready to go after months of planning and jamming, when suddenly… you want to throw up. Embrace the potential genius of the last-minute knowings.
My heart has a long list of things of things that I would like someone else to revolutionize.
You’re about to ship your product, wrap the gift, get dressed for the event, name the baby. Go time. Launch time. Deadline-to-meet-time. It’s time to make the final call. You’ve been working toward this for months. Money invested in designers, endless jam sessions, deep thinking, working toward THAT goal. And then…and then you look at it (clock is ticking, we’re waiting for you to sign off), and you think…it’s not quite right…
Speak very directly about the benefits. I say, 80% simple language and 20% poetry and flash lingo. Sass and personality are beautiful, but you do need to speak plainly about the benefits of what you’re offering.
And this all goes back to waving the flag of your passion. Your passion is your qualification. It’s your leading qualification.
When we peel back the labels, and the job titles, and being cool, all work can be an opportunity for liberation.
Just ask. Ask and It Is Given. Ask and you shall receive. Good things come to those who…ask. Agreed. Emphatically. Ask and keep asking. Ask the universe, your boss, your crush, bank manager, bus driver, car salesman…ask for what you want and keep on asking. But if you want to increase your odds of receptivity, you’ve got to go about it with some style, darling…
The internet is a massive landscape, and the turkeys have email access. You need to learn to chuckle when they squawk.
Tell the truth, tell it fast, deliver it with sincerity and care. Words are arrows.
This ends a message to your subconscious, and your subconscious takes things way too literally (this is one of those times when you want your subconscious to take you way too literally.)
“Ain’t it kind of sad that you gotta talk to people about being themselves?”, he asked me.
Here’s a formula: Start telling the truth to yourself in as many ways as possible. And then start telling the truth to a few more people. Extend.
The stories of hardship, and resiliency, and exceptional wealth that were so open-heartedly shared with me from women and men in four different countries… well, be still my heart.
