Some of my clients used to send round the survey before their sessions with me, and it never ceased to amaze me how grateful people were for the experience of being seen and heard by someone who loves them. Try it.

Before almost every stage gig I have a mini moment of doubt and think to myself, “I really hope I can be of some use here,” Or, “If this crowd doesn’t laugh in the first three minutes, I’m cooked.”
You GO WHERE THE LOVE IS. You pay very close attention to the people, customers, commenters, and buyers who are paying very close attention to you.
What’s so interesting, or soothing, or sexy about the things that you gravitate towards. Go with the first thing that enters your mind, no matter how silly or grandiose it may seem.
Just yesterday I was ecstatically getting the hell out of high school, wearing shoulder pads and stilettos underneath my graduation gown. There are a few things I’d tell that version of me. Stuff like: If you don’t kiss girls in your twenties, you’ll probably never get around to trying it out. You should try it out.
People are where they are–despite our desire for them to be further along, more evolved, more fun, closer to our level, less intimidating, more relatable, easier to access, or simply more like us. If you take the desire for someone to be different out of the equation – you can meet them where they are. You can meet them in the real moment. You can meet them in their despair or their magnificence…

I am wondering if enlightenment relies on the forgiveness formula. As The Course in Miracles puts it, “Forgiveness is unknown in Heaven, where the need for it would be inconceivable”.
Even if I’m writing fluidly or fire starting with a fellow entrepreneur, I crave little bits of beauty like I crave milk chocolate at about 3:00pm everyday.
“I’ll figure it out,” may mean waiting quietly, even for a long time, on the will of heaven. It may mean turning over every single stone without rest until you find the answer or the escape hatch. It may mean praying til you sweat, surveying the experts, or forty days in the desert…
Everybody is amazing at something — whether it’s being a loyal friend, crunching numbers, motivating people or throwing great parties. {And your genius is a cousin to your joy.}
We crave it. We die for it. We try to pay for it. We aspire, we mire, we miss the mark. In the unending, coiling, incessant pursuit of being right and good enough to find love and get love and give love, we forget about the very nature of love itself.
Albert stopped me on the sidewalk this week. “I don’t want you to hear this in bits and pieces from the neighbours, but we just found out that Laurie has lung cancer.
When you choose to be real, there will likely be tough choices and 11th-hour changes. There will be misunderstandings, uncomfortable silences, and sometimes, there will be isolation. When do you feel like giving up?

There are many who see honesty as a noble goal within business or personal relationships. Though I think honesty captures the passive and reactive components to the open exchange of ideas, authenticity extends the responsibility to be a proactive representation of your true self. Where honesty has an on/off switch, the ethical center of authenticity requires it to be always on.
I wonder what my days would be like if I approached my happiness with more urgency and insistence (like I do deadlines and should-do’s.) Like: I’ve GOT to meet my dancing quota! Come hell or high water, I WILL get a facial and lay in the sun! Wild horses couldn’t keep me from lunch with my girlfriends!
I learned a thousand subtle and mighty things about Life from those existential passages, but what I learned about depression itself is that, the more you resist it, the longer it lasts. When depressed, I find it’s best to just be depressed.
I used to be angry and didn’t know why. Now I’m righteous but happy. In my twenties I WILLED it to happen. Now I allow it to happen. I used to need ritual. Now I just want the peace that lies beyond structure, even ritual.
And in just two years of homemade soups and desert and other bubbly things, we’ve gone through life-altering decisions, marriage melt downs, new babies, business epics, world travels, heart wrenching loss, and amazing successes. We would move mountains to help each other.
Sometimes, it’s best to compliment someone as a ‘drive-by’ or last minute gesture. I once walked up to a woman in a food court and said, “You look fucking fabulous.” She just about choked on her salad roll.
#2: You have to laugh at my jokes. Because, it’s a fact, on most occasions, I am one witty rascal mamacita. And if you’re not laughing at my jokes, then you better have your own wicked sense of humour to fill the laugh gap.
This is off Sinead’s set, Theology. It’s a love song to life, to God {with a bit of unfortunate bitterness, but just don’t sing at those parts if you don’t want to.} I’d like to sing it, maybe with a funky back beat, to the world. I want to make something beautiful, don’t you?
What would feel really, really, good to feel? Connected. Free. Light. Creative. Influential. Powerful. Healed. Rich. Pretty. Strong. Leadership. Quality. Sweet. Sexy. Robust. Close to nature. Fresh. Excited. Vibrant. Quiet. Playful. Adored. Productive. Sensuous. Peace. Colour. Focused. Complete.
I love having an idea when I’m walking the dog late at night and then in about six weeks actually making money from that late night glimmering, or seeing it on paper. And Christ, when I can help other people get a rush on it, it’s pure juicy juice. I need that juice.
If I hadn’t been rejected from art school, I wouldn’t have written my 1st book. If I’d gotten that gig with the big publishing house, I wouldn’t have met the Dalai Lama. If I’d stayed in my last company, I wouldn’t be writing the White Hot Truth.
