I used to believe that my unmet longings were a punishment. The longings pushed downward to a small loneliness.
I healed some. I learned how to grieve career paths, friendships, partnerships, and children I wouldn’t be having. And, amazingly, grief brought me so much closer to being alive. Grieving for my faded dreams woke me up.
The Full-Hearteds will be called crazy, idealistic, rebellious, too soft, too New Age, irrational, impractical, so angry, disloyal, righteous, moralistic, idealistic, unrealistic, unreasonable… and (gasp!)… utopian. It won’t be the first time, it will not be the last. That’s more than alright. This moment was made for the Full-Hearteds to let love rule. We see the beautiful ideal and we know that we’re all a part of its unfolding.
Grace holds tension. Between joy and sorrow; sanity and falling apart; the past you’ve outgrown and your radiant future. Grace balances “bothness.” She is spiritually mature. She turns pain into power.
Grace for Impact is the best of my love, my training in scenario planning and future studies, and my Faith. I was intending to write a book next year called, Things I Do When I’m In Pain. Here it is. This poured out of me in a week. It’s not perfect, but it’s on time.
I’ve been thinking a lot about transactional giving these days. I’ll tweet about you if you tweet about me. They owe me a favour. You listen for five minutes to them so they’ll listen when it’s your turn to talk. Even Stevens. Transactional giving can be a beautiful commerce of support, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that interplay. But if all of our giving is to secure our getting…then, well, it’s gross.
