I hit pause on obsessing about rapid financial growth. Here’s why…
Hello Love, I’m doing a two-part piece on career + money. It’s my birthday this week and I’m feeling powered up to talk about these power topics.
First up, an announcement about a mentoring op, then I’ll give you my Be Well Business formula and tell you about the radical clean up I’ve done in the last two years.
ANNOUNCING!

👘 Now to open the kimono on my own business….
WE HIT PAUSE ON OBSESSING ABOUT RAPID FINANCIAL GROWTH. HERE’S WHY…
I adore bold goals. And I adore velocity. The shortest distance between two points is my FAVOURITE. Like, who doesn’t want rapid positive growth and results? 10x’ing is a total turn on.
Quick definition of 10x’ing. 10x Is Easier Than 2x, by my pal Ben Hardy and Dan Sullivan, is one of my favourite business books. It’s about making the leap from accomplishing incremental goals—“2x” growth, versus breakthrough goals, “10x” growth. As I see it, boring versus quantum.
10x goals, “impossible goals,” push us to question assumptions and think and behave more boldly. As a result, we magnetize greater outcomes. It’s the metaphysical law that energy follows thought, really.
This is key: in my business, 10xing is NOT just a cash number and customer acquisition game. It’s as QUALITATIVE as it is quantitative. It’s as much about enriching our offerings as it is about increasing profit margins.
Either way, 10x’ing is resoundingly… bold.
But sometimes, bold does not look like what we’ve been told. Especially in business.
Enter Krishnamurti, “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
There is ego centered boldness, and there is heart centered boldness. The former will create chaos, the latter will heal the world. Especially in business.
Before I tell you why I’m pumping the brakes on obsessing about rapid financial growth, here’s some backstory:
I want to 10x the quality of my LIFE and the lives of my team.
When I started at this, there was no Instagram. I’ve been writing and speaking— “influencing,” before influencers were monetizing their um, influence. 😀
I practice simplicity as a form of spiritual devotion—less material consumption, a more spacious calendar.
I deeply believe that the #1 priority for every human right now, this includes monks and new mamas, should be balancing our nervous system. As the collective unconscious is flailing to become conscious, physical and mental wellness are no longer bonus achievements—they are the essentials.
24 months ago, I started to renovate my business. I took it from 16 people to 5. It’s been a very big deal. New systems and tech stack; new leadership, more streamlined offerings focused on giving spiritual direction. This created a new LIFESTYLE for me. I have space to be an attentive wifey’ish. I’m bringing small groups to Egypt. I can travel to see my kid in Montreal. I do morning meditations and yoga without a guilt trip. Everything is… deeper.
I’ve built a team of agile possibility thinkers (I’ll tell you more about them next week in PART 2.) We do not see obstacles, we see doorways (la portes!) So why did we pump the brakes on “How can we make mo’ money mo’ faster?!”
After some intoxicating 10x team jam sessions, I quietly asked Dana, our Chief of Staff, “Do you reeeally think we can 10x revenue by the end of 2025?”
Her response was immediate: “No.”
I exhaled. Because I love sanity.
Then Dana said, “But we will next year!” Also, sanity.
Leadership isn’t about getting louder with bigger goals… shouting at everyone to get better at believing. That’s how you 10x ego—and anxiety.
I agreed with Dana. The nervous system of the company—which is inextricable from my own, had been stretched—which is a good thing. But after two years of radical change, we were in danger of pulling our manifestation muscles. We needed to pace ourselves.
“This year, let’s focus on our Be Well Number and live good lives,” I directed.
We exhaled. Because we love sanity.
WHAT’S OUR BE WELL NUMBER?
Our Be Well Number is the minimum revenue the business will earn for the team to be well. It’s what we “really” need to earn in a fiscal year. It’s simple math meets heart centered leadership.
Be Well Number = break even + 20 to 30%. Your break-even should be somewhat obvious (though, even that should be re-examined—and not by your accountant.) And “success” must be on your own terms. I’m interested in a multi-dimensional form of success—all forms of abundance.
OUR BE WELL BUSINESS GUIDELINES for 2025
Make up your own or borrow ours…
1. Everyone is well paid.
2. The business has 6 months of operating money.
3. The business is debt free.
4. Ramp up philanthropy.
5. No compromises on production value—the Heart Centered Collective is kin.
6. By year end, we need two more full time people to grow quality and quantities: a designer and a tech director. And or a combo of freelancers.
7. I will write a new book and tour in the Fall.
8. We’ll have a team retreat.
THE BENEFITS OF OUR BE WELL GOAL
I’m putting this list of benefits in uppercase because I’m so joyful about this!
1. WE ARE RELAXED. Therefore…
2. WE THINK MORE CLEARLY. Therefore…
3. WE ARE MORE CREATIVE. Therefore…
4. WE LAUGH MORE. Therefore…
5. WE HAVE WEEKENDS! Therefore…
6. WE ARE MORE EFFICIENT. Therefore…
7. WE ARE MORE PROFITABLE.
When we hit our BE WELL NUMBER, we’re good.
That’s all we have to do! Not more. Not faster. Not longer. We relax and we keep growing…. Moving toward 10x revenue gains… happily. Not as disconnected stress buckets.
YOUR BE WELL NUMBER
1. Forecast monthly expenses for the year based on current salaries and average monthly operating expenses. Lean towards the conservative side.
2. Add anomalies for one-off expense surges you’re planning for (i.e., paid ad campaign, in-person event costs, deposit for physical product order, etc.).
3. The above = baseline business expenses.
4. Now add in dream numbers. In an ideal world:
Would you hire anyone new this year?
Would anyone on your team get a raise or bonus?
Does the team do an in-person retreat somewhere awesome?
Any tech or wellness allowances for your team?
Any business loans or payables you’d like to clean up?
Will you give a percentage of monthly net revenue to philanthropy?
Will you take a percentage of monthly net revenue and put it aside to build 6-months of operating expenses?
5. Baseline business expenses + dream considerations = your Be Well Number.
If your Be Well number doesn’t feel achievable, then get busy re-focusing your offering and reducing costs and “needs.” You may need a courageous STOP-DOING LIST.
I’ll show you our business’ very extensive STOP DOING LIST in next week’s post! It’s pretty sexy.
We’re still going to 10x our dollars over the next three years. Duh.
“Be well” and “bold goals” are not mutually exclusive terms. What’s bold is combining them into a business model in a society that’s obsessed with productivity, money and speed.
Because I’ve been around longer than Instagram, I deeply understand that velocity has to account for nervous system regulation—yours and the people you lead, or you’re in for big melt downs and battered bottom lines. What happens in the shortest distance between two points? Your LIFE.
All for Love… and heart centering 10x’ing,
I know this business piece was buh-eefy. But I still need to tell you the extra fun lifey things. Like this:
WHAT’S WORKING
Face yoga is the new Botox. I’m into it. My fave ladies: @trinhgeorg and @face.fitness.club
This works!: “Anybody can play. The note is only twenty percent. The attitude of the motherf*cker who plays it is eighty percent.” – Miles Davis
WHAT’S NOT WORKING
I’ve been learning about micro-plastics in gum and Zip-loc bags. I wasn’t a gum chewer until recently, but I’m doing a diet (I will explain later, I promise. 17 pounds down) and sugar-free gum has been my treat. It’s not as pathetic as it sounds. 😂 But… it might be shooting plastic particles into my microbiome, so… hard pause.
And news has broken about Zip-loc makers withholding evidence that microwaved and frozen bags emit plastics into the food. Duh. I haven’t used a microwave nuclear device in a decade, but I love my zippies for food and all things. Phasing OUT. Going to look for alternatives like waxed fabric and… I dunno… wooden crates? Stay tuned for more reports from plastic free me. xo
