Hello, love,
I went to my favourite pie shop in Vancouver this weekend. It’s legendary but not fancy, a wholesome community staple. Guess how much a 10 inch lemon meringue pie is?
$71 Canadian. Seventy-one-dollars.
I wanted to cry. The inflation dagger pierced my heart. I felt flooded with… societal sadness. (BTW, my pie shop buys fully organic from local farms, and pays fair wages. I think this may actually be what it takes to make a profit margin.)
I thought about the baby formula at my local drug store that’s kept in a locked case because it’s expensive. If I was a bottle-feeding mama on minimum wage, it’d be the first thing I’d lift. Wouldn’t think twice.
Pivot: Influencer launches doing millions in a weekend. I noticed a trend where content creators are spoofing people on a “budget” because they don’t relate to having to be on a “budget.”
Trillionaires with the capacity to end hunger and ensure humanity has clean drinking water and health care. But nope. Let’s build robots and go to Mars.
It’s madness. And to name what’s going on as madness is sanity.
Okay, my rant on inflation may or may not be relevant to the questions I’m about to ask you. But somehow it’s all connected. Because I’m interested in depth, accessibility. And knowing how we’re all doing.
