Speaking tips + current fears + thought looping

Hello Love,

PART 1: Fears to relate to

I spoke at The Gathering Festival last month in Banff. It’s a marketing and branding conference, about 2000 people and biggie brands like Disney, Pinterest, Home Depot all sharing strategies. I was an outlier, talking about why fear management is sooo over (it actually backfires.)

It was one of my favourite key notes to date. I was surprised how many men came up afterwards to say they really got the connection between physics + mindset (it’s usually the women who are relating.) Coooool. Makes me hopeful.

I spent the two days at the conference before my talk asking people to write down (in confidence) what they wanted to let go of or were afraid of. Everyone was willing.
Who relates?
  • Worrying about things I can’t control
  • I’m afraid of missing out. This leads to stress and being hard on myself. I overwork in this fear.
  • Guilt for not taking better advantage of the opportunities that were available to me.
  • Not expressing myself authentically.
  • The stress of being a working mom.
  • I’m afraid of the “return” of acceptable homophobia.
  • Memories of being abandoned.
  • I’m afraid to let go of the version of me who kept her voice silent to keep the peace.
  • The need to have my shit together.
  • I’m afraid to let go of the pain of losing my dad this year. Because the pain still reminds me how much I loved him.
Bless and release it, my love.
PART 2: Speaking tips

1. If you get into the JOY of why and what you’re there to share, you will be magnetic and guided. Joy doesn’t mean “bubbly,” necessarily. It means that it feels so good to serve. Get turned on about helping people find their power.

2. Too much ego will kink the energy. This is actually not about you. But yes—own the stage, suit up, ground.

3. If you don’t get a full intro, you will have to lay down some legitimizing resume nuggets in the beginning of your talk. Builds trust.

4. Everyone wants you to win. No one is sitting in the audience hoping you flop. Let yourself feel held.

5. My style is to talk to everyone like I’m preachin’ and jokin’ in my kitchen. And that’s pretty much me wherever I go. 🤓 Be yourself.
PART 3: Looping thoughts

Also in Banff, Mark Groves and I did something called “Inner Sanctum,” 20’ish people in a room, and everyone had to put their phones away. The idea is that people get really real, really fast.

I got asked about how to stop mind looping. I LOVE THIS QUESTION! I’ve been working on this very specifically and I have suggestions for you!

I’m doing a free class called YOUR CENTERED WEEK.
