Sunday: The Soul’s Day

My loves! Welcome to part 2 of our 8-part series on the energetics of the days of the week. Today we’re diving deep into Sunday—the day that’s ruled by solar energy, soul energy, and what I call Christ consciousness or Buddha nature.

The big intention remains the same: More flow, less force.

Every day of the week is governed by a planetary energy, so each day has its own vibration. Ideally, we flow with that energy instead of resisting it. One way to create more flow is to pair a Life Area with a day of the week. Then tasks, research, shopping, organizing, connecting, check-ins, etc, get focused on that Life Area.

THE ENERGY OF SUNDAY

SUNDAY is ruled by the Sun, Solar Nature, Soul, Christ Consciousness/Buddha Nature. It brings the energy of all inclusiveness—Divine Love. Sundays are ideal for devotion, restoration, and preparation.

LIFE AREA pairing: SPIRIT. Meditation + Visualization. Prayer. Ritual. Breathwork. Reflection. Journaling.

Here’s something that might surprise you: Sunday is actually the first day of the week, energetically speaking. Can you feel it? I know culturally we’re not set up for this, but it’s one of many things that feels counterintuitive to our divine nature.

This makes Sunday a powerful day for both restoration and preparation. When I was running a think tank in Washington, DC, I used to dread Sunday nights—that familiar anxiety would creep in. Now, I’ve noticed something beautiful. When we’re lit up by what we do, Sunday naturally becomes a day of inspired planning. My team instinctively does their weekly planning on Sunday evenings, not because they have to, but because they’re lit UP and want to be prepared. (The worst day to prepare for your week and set things up is on Mondays—but more to come on that next week.)

If you are in a place creatively in your career where you’re not dealing with Sunday night anxiety—set your intentions for the week. Sunday is the ideal day.

WORKING WITH SUNDAY ENERGY

With Sunday as the first true day of the week, this is naturally my favourite day for deeper connection to The Divine. I write out a long list of gratitudes, I will often refresh my altar, read some sacred text. There’s often weekly prep and playlist sprucing.

Sunday brings devotion, restoration, and preparation energy. It’s all about that fresh start, expansive energy that you can bring into your Monday.

Sundays are ideal days to:

1. Write out a list of gratitudes

2. Refresh your altar or sacred space

3. Read sacred texts

4. Morning meditation or deep prayer practice

5. Set intentions for the week

6. Create weekly playlists

7. Take long walks in nature

8. Sacred bath or extended self-care rituals

9. Spiritual journaling and reflection

10. Connect with spiritual community or loved ones

11. BONUS: Rest (see Anything Sundays below)

REST AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE – ANYTHING SUNDAYS

Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is have absolutely nothing prescribed. I’ve started what I call “Anything Sundays”—where I do ANYTHING I WANT on Sunday.

I suspend all spiritual striving and karma-burning focus. If I want to sleep in, I sleep in. If I want to do my Gratitude list sitting on my linen zabuton cushion (use LAPORTE15 for 15% OFF at b halfmoon) looking at the ocean while listening to Led Zeppelin… I’m doin’ it. Just smoothies, potato chips, Netflix, a 25-minute bless practice (get it free in the app), wake up and organize my bathroom cabinet IMMEDIATELY… anything I want.

Here’s what I’ve discovered:

  • Anything Sundays remind me about Unconditional Love. It’s not so much about staying in bed all day, it’s about turning down the performance pressure—WITHOUT GUILT. If you’re going to do ANYTHING SUNDAYS for yourself, the key is that you do it all without guilt or fear.

  • Anything Sundays show me what brings me to life. Once my rebellion was off-gassed, I actually WANTED to get on the yoga mat. I write my Gratitude list more slowly and intentionally. My meal prep feels more prayerful. The “spiritual” things slipped off my to-do list and into my being-ness. The head gives way to the heart.

  • ALL THE THINGS appear to be more “spiritual things.” From popsicles and rom-coms to Sunday mantras and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda. I’m sure this is the direct result of relaxing into the Unconditional Love that’s waiting for me 7 days a week… for eternity.

Next week, we’ll dive into Monday—that lunar, emotional, watery energy that calls for patience and mindfulness.
