ISSUE 35 | FEBRUARY 7, 2025

You don’t have to go to Cairo to have these revelations or experiences… but evidently, I had to.

Some of these learnings are very personal. All of what I’m attempting to translate is beyond words. There are layers I can’t describe. This feels like going braless at my art opening. But, this is me, and this is my art.

THE SPHINX

“The Guru and the disciple are one single thing, like the candle and its flame.”
—Nisargadatta Maharaj

My experience was that The Sphinx embodies both Masculine AND Feminine energies in full force. Father and Mother. LOVING. Not punitive. Not over-lording. Its majesty is Divine Love. Not what I expected.

I walked ‘round The Sphinx three times, barefoot in the sand-dust, stroking its structure, pouring out gratitude and awe. “Whatever you want to give me, Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The Sphinx: “The gratitude is mutual. You must understand this.”

The gratitude is mutual.

It was a one-to-one statement, and a dictum. The Sphinx was speaking on behalf of Great Beings. They’re all grateful.

And I thought of every time I’ve prayed to The Divine Mother or Archangels feeling small, with a pleading in my throat—not wanting to take up too much space or time.

You, Great being are grateful for my presence?

It’s so humbling to know this. So inviting. So incredibly inspiring. Made me want to step UP into ALL of the Divinity.

Then… well, in an extraordinary moment of solitude, with my chest pressed to Sphinx’s chest, Sphinx healed my lungs. I will tell that story in the future.

The great Beings are as thankful for our presence as we are for theirs. We must understand this.

THE TEMPLE OF HORUS AT EDFU We were told before going into some temples (not all) that the guards aren’t always keen on Westerners getting all New Age in these sacred spaces. Easy on the mudras, keep your flip flops on, no humping the hieroglyphics. Got it.

I parked myself in front of a massive pictorial scene. One of thousands. I didn’t think much about it. Back against a pillar, hiding behind my hat and sunglasses, I went into fervent prayer practice.

“I offer up the contents of my shadow to be transmuted into light. I offer up my grievances, I offer up my most negative thinking. I offer up my pain, my lack of forgiveness, my fears, my worries.” Rhythmic breathing. “I offer up resentments, all negativity…”

A French tour guide and his group approached. He pointed to the image I was sitting in front of. En francais, he explained, “Here we have a King and a Priest. The Priest is helping the King to purify his thoughts. You see this pattern flowing from the King’s head into the container the Priest is holding? The King is pouring out his negative thinking.”

Prayer puts us in the right place at the right time.

I was reminded in the Temple of Isis that problems can’t be solved unless you bring them to the altar. NOTED. So I took that week to craft my “problem questions.”

I prayed on the best problems to bring forward. I wrote them out, I scratched them out, I refined them into three statements.

Each problem was a long term theme: a particular relationship dynamic that I keep manifesting; what I find strenuous about my work; and then this problem-statement, “The world breaks my heart.”

In ABYDOS’ TEMPLE OF OSIRIS, specifically in the room that once operated as a hospital-healing sanctuary, I spoke my three problem statements. I left with very clear answers. Relieved.

As for the world breaking my heart, the answer was, “Let it. The heartbreak is the portal to the power.”

There were more layers. More specifics. Insights that helped me dissolve judgment, that showed me how the light works, that helped me see clearly. I’m not doing any of this justice, I’m grabbing at the brightest colours to try to get something useful and applicable to you. Art is messy.

All for Love,
